He Māori
Rangatahi Mentoring
Our Māori-Intentional Rangatahi Mentoring Kaupapa supports Years 11–13 to explore Higher Education pathways. Using our kaupapa-driven framework, we help Rangatahi confidently navigate both Te Ao Māori and Te Ao Pākehā.
With guidance from Māori Thought Leaders, Rangatahi learn to:
-
build confidence and self-belief
-
explore all higher education possibilities
-
grow into their fullest potential
He Māori - Be Māori ALL Day... Every Day!

Our Engagement

Our North Star
Present
He Māori Mentoring relieves stress and anxiety from schoolwork, deadlines, peers, and social pressures. Our refocus is to introduce tauira to the IT sector with a focus on software development.
Ongoing Discussion
We inspire Rangatahi to dream boldly and see their fullest potential. Together, we explore higher-education pathways —
entry requirements, funding, support systems — and help them navigate non-Māori environments with confidence.
Long Term
We guide our Rangatahi as they step into their Higher Education Pathway. Inspired by Māori Thought Leaders, we envision them becoming the next generation of leaders themselves to eventually influence policy and decision-making for the benefit of our tangata, whānau, hapū, and iwi.

Our Inspiration
Our He Māori Initiative was conceived upon my return home to Aotearoa, after living 28 years in the States. I do not see me... Wahine Māori in IT.
I do not see many Wāhine in IT.
I do not see many Māori in IT.
I do not see many Wāhine Māori in IT.
Statistically, Māori represent 17% national population, yet only 4.8% of the NZ Technology Sector (Toi Hangarau 2024 p.35).
He Māori offers a waka to lead more Rangatahi Māori into Higher Education to combat this statistic and other statistics like it!
